HDPVRCapture v2.7.0 has been released

A collection of small but important cleanups related to iCal scheduling. iCal support has been fixed and the performance vastly improved. Importantly, support for 10.4 has been dropped. 10.4 Support

Hi folks.

It’s becoming more and more difficult for me to test and maintain backwards compatibility with HDPVRCapture and OSX 10.4. The current shipping version v2.5.7 supports 10.4. 10.5 and 10.6. The test matrix that I go through for Intel, PPC 10.4, 10.5 and 10.6 is getting out of control and I need to to get it back into a reasonable shape – meaning I can get releases out to you much sooner.

So, I’m sorry to say, v2.6.0 will be the last release to support 10.4. Versions v2.6.1 or higher will have no 10.4 support.

A collection of small but important cleanups. Added IR blaster support for a new European STB. Simplified the way the license key is loaded into the application (now you just click a button and load a file). Fixed an issue related to mp4 conversions. Fixed AC3 conversion issues that resulted in missing audio.

One or two small but important cleanups. The IR test controls in the preferences panel have been disabled and scheduled for removal for quite some time. They’re now gone, which helps avoid confusion and support issues with new customers. Also fixed a bug that (hopefully) prevents HDPVRCapture from crashing on startup when EyeTV is also installed in the system.

10.6 Snow Leopard testing

I’ve been running HDPVRCapture on 10.6 and looking for any obvious compatibility issues, the good news is that I can’t find any direct problems. I have found one indirect issue related to QuickTime Player X (v10) which is now the default on my MacPro. (Unrelated: My previous installation of QuickTime Pro v7 was relegated during the upgrade but is still available for use when you right click on a file and choose to “Open With -> QuickTime Player 7″).

I’ve added a specific 10.6 section to the FAQ which describes a common issue I’ve seen with QT v10 related to AC3 audio inside mov/mp4 and MKV containers. It’s a little disappointing that certain audio codec types that played perfectly with QuickTime in 10.5 now have issues with newer QuickTime builds.

HDPVRCapture v2.5.2 has been released

Over the last 10 days a number of people have reported a major bug with v2.5.0. They have been experiencing noticeable video glitches during recording when the encoding bitrate reaches > 8Mbps for a sustained periods of time. This could also be observed by the HDPVR lights flashing, going out and coming back on.

I’m releasing v2.5.2 today to fix this issue. So, one major bugfix in this release, but I recommend it to all users.

I’m happy to announce the v2.5.0 release, it’s been a very long time coming. It’s been three months since the last major release and v2.5.0 contains quite a large number of changes. Bug fixes, cleanups, important IR related fixes. Quicktime related fixes enable true 5.1 support. Zap2it changes, post processing related changes for concurrent processing. Support for a new UK BSKYB STB.

www.geektonic.com is reporting that Dell has a fantastic deal on the HDPVR for $165.

The HDPVR deals have slowed down lately but this is a great price.
