Avoiding Software Theft
Developers can’t continue to write great software if people are stealing it, using it without payment. As a result, to avoid software theft, I generate license keys specifically for each STB. The license key unlocks all of the features of AVCNoodle for your specific STB. So, as part of the order process I also ask for your STB hardware serial number. This information is private between you and I.
Finding your serial number
How do you find the serial number of your STB? The serial number is shown in the AVCNoodle application in the Detailed View window.
The easiest place to find the STB serial number using the Mac’s System Profiler tool, located in the Application / utilities folder. Run the System Profile tool then look under the Hardware / Firewire / Firewire Bus section. Here’s a screenshot show the serial number for my hardware. System Profiler uses the term ‘GUID’ to refer to your STB’s serial number. My serial numbers begins with 0×80046…
